How to Use the Tilapia Stocking Density Calculator

Open the Stocking Density Calculator →

Free. No sign-up. Works on your phone.

What it gives you

  • Fingerlings to stock, from pond area and density per square meter.
  • Fish expected at harvest, from your survival rate.
  • Expected harvest in kilos and in kilos per square meter.
  • A rating: normal, high or crowded, with or without an aerator.

Stock too few fingerlings and the pond is wasted; stock too many and the fish grow slowly and the water turns bad. This free calculator gives the number to stock for your pond size and tells you if the harvest fits what the pond can carry.

How to use the Stocking Density, step by step

  1. Open the tool

Go to arandcagriventures.com, tap Tilapia Tools, then choose Stocking Density.

  2. Enter the pond area

Type the water surface area in square meters.

  3. Set the stocking density

Fish per square meter. Three per m² is a common starting point for ponds without aeration.

  4. Set the expected survival

The percentage of fish you expect to reach harvest.

  5. Enter the harvest weight

The average weight per fish you plan to sell at, in grams.

  6. Choose aerator or no aerator, then tap Calculate

The result shows the fingerlings, the harvest and the rating.

The example in the video

What we typed
Pond area1,000 m²
Stocking density3 fish per m²
Expected survival70%
Harvest weight300 g
AeratorNo aerator
What the tool showed
Fingerlings to stock3,000 pcs
Fish at harvest2,100
Expected harvest630 kg
Load at harvest0.63 kg per m² (Normal)

How to read the result

At 3 fish per m², a 1,000 m² pond takes 3,000 fingerlings. With 70% survival and 300 g fish, that is 2,100 fish and 630 kg at harvest, or 0.63 kg per m². A pond without an aerator carries about 1 kg per m², so this is rated Normal. Above 1 kg per m² the tool warns that the pond is getting crowded.

Questions growers ask

How many tilapia fingerlings per square meter?

Around 3 per square meter is a common starting density for ponds without aeration. The right number depends on your water supply, aeration and harvest size, which is what the calculator checks.

How many fingerlings for a 1,000 square meter pond?

At 3 per m², stock 3,000 fingerlings. With 70% survival and 300 g harvest weight, expect about 630 kg.

Made for tilapia growers in the Philippines

These tools and tutorials come from AR&C Agriventures, a tilapia hatchery in Banga, South Cotabato, Philippines. They work the way growers here buy and sell: kilos, sacks and pesos, with captions in Tagalog. They are free for every grower in the Philippines, from South Cotabato and the rest of Mindanao to Luzon and the Visayas.
