How to Use the Tilapia FCR Calculator
Free. No sign-up. Works on your phone.
What it gives you
- Your feed conversion ratio and a rating.
- Total feed used, from sacks of 10, 20 or 25 kg.
- Weight gained by the fish.
- What to do to bring the FCR down.
FCR tells you how many kilos of feed it took to grow one kilo of fish. It is the single best measure of whether your feeding is efficient. This free calculator works it out from your feed sacks and your fish weight, and rates the result.
How to use the FCR Calculator, step by step
Open the tool
Go to arandcagriventures.com, tap Tilapia Tools, then choose FCR Calculator.
Count the feed used
Enter all the sacks given this cycle, from stocking until now. Fill in only the sack sizes you used.
Enter the total fish weight now
In kilos: at harvest, or estimated from sampling with the Biomass tool.
Enter the weight at stocking, if you know it
Leave it blank if the fingerlings were very small.
Tap Calculate FCR
The result shows the FCR, its rating and the advice.
The example in the video
| 25 kg sacks used | 40 |
|---|---|
| Total fish weight now | 700 kg |
| Weight at stocking | left blank |
| Feed conversion ratio | 1.43 (Good) |
|---|---|
| Feed used | 1,000 kg (40 sacks) |
| Weight gained | 700 kg |
How to read the result
Forty sacks of 25 kg is 1,000 kg of feed. Divided by 700 kg of fish gained, the FCR is 1.43: it took 1.43 kg of feed to grow each kilo of fish, a healthy result for tilapia grow-out. The tool rates 1.2 or lower as excellent, 1.2–1.5 as good, 1.5–1.8 as fair, and above 1.8 as high. Lower is better.
Questions growers ask
How do I compute FCR?
FCR = feed used ÷ weight gained. 1,000 kg of feed ÷ 700 kg of fish gained = 1.43.
What is a good FCR for tilapia?
The calculator rates 1.2–1.5 as good and 1.2 or lower as excellent. Above 1.8 is high and means feed is being wasted.
Made for tilapia growers in the Philippines
These tools and tutorials come from AR&C Agriventures, a tilapia hatchery in Banga, South Cotabato, Philippines. They work the way growers here buy and sell: kilos, sacks and pesos, with captions in Tagalog. They are free for every grower in the Philippines, from South Cotabato and the rest of Mindanao to Luzon and the Visayas.
