How to Use the Tilapia Feeding Calculator

Open the Feeding Calculator →

Free. No sign-up. Works on your phone.

What it gives you

  • Daily feed in kilos, and kilos per meal.
  • How many times a day to feed.
  • The pellet size and protein level for that size of fish.
  • The live fish count and total weight behind the figure.

Feeding by guesswork wastes money or starves the fish. This free calculator gives today's ration in kilos from the number of fish, their average weight and the water temperature, and tells you how many meals to split it into.

How to use the Feeding Calculator, step by step

  1. Open the tool

Go to arandcagriventures.com, tap Tilapia Tools, then choose Feeding Calculator.

  2. Choose the water type

    Fresh water or brackish water.

  3. Enter the fish stocked and the survival

The tool works out how many fish are alive now.

  4. Enter the average body weight

In grams, from your latest sampling. Use the Biomass & Sampling tool if you need to work it out.

  5. Enter the water temperature

In degrees Celsius. Fish eat less when the water is cool or very hot.

  6. Tap Calculate feed

The result shows the daily ration, the meals and the pellet.

How to read the result

With 78% survival there are 2,340 fish, 117 kg in all. At 50 g they are fed 3% of body weight a day, which is 3.5 kg, split into three meals of 1.2 kg. If feed is still floating after 15–20 minutes, give less at the next meal. Update the average weight after every sampling so the ration keeps up with the fish.

Questions growers ask

How much should I feed tilapia per day?

It depends on their size. In this example, 50 g fish are fed 3% of their body weight a day: 3.5 kg for 2,340 fish. Smaller fish get a higher percentage and bigger fish a lower one.

How many times a day should tilapia be fed?

The calculator gives the number of meals for the size of fish. For 50 g fish it is three meals a day.
